We had our kitchen completely renovated last winter/spring, 2010/2011. This included all new major appliances. When all three appliances had part failures in less than 1 year after installation, we contacted LG. The three appliances that broke are: 1) An LG Elegant Large Capacity French Door Refrigerator (LFX28978ST). 2) An LG 5-Burner, Large Capacity Free Standing Range (LRG3093ST). 3) An LG Dishwasher with Fully Integrated Controls (LDF6920ST). We contacted LG about the Refrigerator and the Range. The problems are as follows:
The refrigerator: The mullion, which provides a seal between the two doors snapped off. We were told by LG that the replacement part was on backorder. They informed us that there were 240 (two hundred and forty) already on backorder, and they were out of them, and that, as they came in, customers would receive the part in the order that requests for parts were received. That was around the 22nd of Jan, 2012. The repair service subcontractor (RTA Service Company 856-742-0700) has not heard from LG. They called LG, and were given no information about when the parts would be shipped to them. Meanwhile, cold air continues to escape from between the doors, and airborne contaminants and insects can freely enter the refrigerator.
The range: This appliance has plastic knobs which interface with metal control shafts, which get hot enough to actually melt the knob in such a way, that the knob no longer turns the shaft. We had to turn the gas off with pliers. Their solution was to ship us another set of PLASTIC knobs just like the ones that melted. This is a hazard, because we are never completely sure that the gas is off. There was an incident where I arrived at home and immediately smelled gas. Sure enough, the gas was still on, despite the fact that the person who had been using it had turned it off. Upon closer inspection, the knob had melted inside, where it grips the metal shaft, which was still hot.
The dishwasher: This appliance shed an upper seal/ trim piece. We aren’t really sure what function this part is supposed to fill.
We are really completely disgusted. All three appliances are not even a year old, and they are falling apart. One of the problems is literally a fire and inhalation hazard. The parts we got from LG to "fix" the problem are the same parts that were the problem in the first place. LG doesn't seem concerned, and, rather seem to have an attitude like we should just “wait our turn". I have no confidence that the mullion for the refrigerator will last, since there are already so many of them on back order. At this point, we'd like to return the appliances and get our money back. The appliances that we discarded to make room for these were safer, and more reliable. What did we pay for?
