So , I have been looking for jobs and filling applications on various websites. On March 16th, I received the following email:

We are accepting applications for qualified individuals to become Mystery Shoppers.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
1. You will receive funding for the assignment.
2. You will receive the Instruction for your assignment via email on the location and details of the assignment.
3. You are to complete the assignment as fast and discreetly as possible.
4. You will be asked to visit a business location to conduct business be it a restaurant, shopping store etc.

PAYMENT TERMS:
You will receive a flat sum of $200 per assignment. The company will furnish you with all expense
needed for the assignment and any other expense incurred during the course of executing your assignment.

Note: You are to follow all instructions given to you to the fullest.

This sounded like something that could help me make some extra money without any hassle so I was like " why not?". I was a little puzzled because I did not remember applying for any mystery shopper position but I had applied to so many jobs that it was not totally impossible.

On March 21st, I received the following email:

You have fully been employed for the Mystery Shopper/market evaluation position, your details has been reviewed and confirmed, and I'm glad to bring to your notice that the first evaluation is ready and funds required for the evaluation in form of USPS money orders would be delivered next week, but we need to hear back from you to be sure you will be able to handle the assignment, that's why I'm sending you this e-mail to confirm your complete interest in the
evaluation assignment. Instructions on how to complete the evaluation will be sent to your e-mail address after we hear back from you confirming that your still very much interested,You will have no difficulties completing your first transaction after reading the detailed message that will be sent to you.

Are you able, willing and capable of this evaluation assignment in a timely manner. Please respond

After I confirmed I was interested, I received the following on March 26th :

Welcome to Mystery Shopper® Market Research ®.

The first official assignment, would be delivered to your doorstep through United States Postal Service Mail, enclosed would be a Postal Money Order . You are to evaluate the nearest western union outlet close to you.
Once you get delivery of the package through mail, you are to go to your local bank to Cash or deposit the material, we want to know how fast and efficient services are rendered at your bank and the Western Union location you choose to evaluate.
Please write a detailed report on the quality of the customer service and the time it took to complete the transaction. Please document your observations of the entire experience and also the duration it took you to cash the Payment.

You are also to take down notes without them seeing your notepad. They should be completely unaware that you are judging them or probably do that when you are out of the Outlet. I need to know whether you were able
to carry out your assignment on the same day or you were told to deposit and come back on a later date.]

Then you are to deduct $150 from the total amount received as your commission and proceed to any nearest Western Union outlet to wire the remaining funds with money in minutes transfer via Western Union to the Name
and Address below. Follow the directions below completely.

Once that is completed email the MTCN 10 digits for Western Union as soon as you have wired the funds and the exact amount wired after the deduction of transfer fees with a detailed evaluation of your bank and Western Union Outlet.
Below are the details of your report that you should email back immediately you are done with the assignment:

1) Full name and address of the Western Union location that you visited.
2) Quality of their customer service
3) How many employees appeared to be at the outlet?
4) Security system {if any}: Did you feel safe there?
5) The Duration it took them to serve you and process transfer

YOU SHOULD ALSO GET BACK TO US WITH THE FOLLOWING DETAILS ABOUT THE MONEY YOU HAVE SENT VIA WESTERN UNION OUTLET:

1) Senders Name and Address
2) 10 Digit Money Transfer Control Number {MTCN} for Western Union
3) The amount transferred after deducting transfer charges.
4) You should use your full name and address when sending the money.

The money order was indeed in the mail but I thought the amount of money was way too much ($985) and it felt fishy, like some money laundering deal. I decided to do some research on the internet with the name that was on the money order " Joe Mansour" before going to the bank and all these scam alerts popped up. I finally came upon the scambook website and the video described exactly everything that had happened to me, minus the losing money part .
