My bank statement (PNC Bank in the Pittsburgh, PA area ... VISA check card) showed a charge from WWW.GAXOME.CO. I knew this was not something that I authorized. After a few Net searches, it was obvious that this was a scam.

My biggest concern is ... "whose database did they hack to get my credit card number??". It's obvious by all the reports, that there was an online (or offline) database that was hacked to obtain a bunch of credit card numbers. Really, it's an ingenious scheme that goes as follows:

1. Hack a legitimate (or otherwise) database and obtain a huge number of credit card numbers (and who knows what other info).

2. Methodically make small charges to potentially thousands (or tens of thousands depending on the database that was hacked), and hope that very few people notice.

3. When the scam is shut down, keep the remaining credit cards on file and start a new scam, with a new website.

Now, here's the scary part. If the original database that was hacked is not revealed, then the scam(s) will continue until eventually the stolen credit cards expire. Worse ... if the original (potentially legitimate) database is still compromised it will be an endless stream of credit cards for the taking.

So how can this be stopped? If you are ripped off by WWW.GAXOME.CO, report it immediately to your bank's fraud department (don't just cancel the card without informing the fraud department!), and to your local FBI office ( http://www.fbi.gov/contact-us/field ).

Also, see all the complaints on this issue here by typing in WWW.GAXOME.CO on the search bar, or going here : http://www.scambook.com/search/reports?search=www.gaxome.co&sort=date or here : http://www.scambook.com/group/view/1067/Gaxome.co

File a complaint on this website (it's easy) and mention your bank, type of card, location (city & state only... don't be too specific) and also mention any other information you think might be relevant, so that maybe as a community we can figure out the source of the hack.

Don't reveal any personal information, or information that is too specific. For instance, if you suspect that your credit card information was stolen from a specific store (online or offline), don't mention the store's name here. Instead, say something like, "The only online purchase I made in the last several months, was with an online clothing retailer".

If enough people contribute, it may be possible to find out which database was hacked.
