Like others, I attended a pitch session from Worldwide Travel, in Valencia, California, intrigued by the promise of a "free cruise" if I did so. At the end, I actually was stupid enough to join this outfit for thousands of dollars, and was given my "free cruise" certificate. IT IS NOT FREE. NOT EVEN CLOSE. You must send in port taxes and fees to the tune of $248 and receive nothing in return, with the exception of a few verbally mentioned cruises ranging in additional costs from $516 to $1700+.....and of course, no way to know if this will ever be given. I was told I could get my $248 back only if I wrote a letter which I am doing now....and I will wait to see about this. I am a journalist and travel writer and I will be spreading the word about this disgusting scam in an article for the LA Times as well as the internet news service for which I write - but I want to add my comment to this shameless scheme to rip people off.
And by the way, that outfit in Valencia is also a complete scam, unable to deliver the proimised personalized service or personal attention, or even callbacks, not to mention, no travel discounts that you could not get with Online Vacation Center, or any of the other reliable online travel companies. Please do not be lured into this by the promise of something you'll never get. Save your money and go on a nice trip that you book with someone you know.
