DR Horton is a commercial home building company. They installed Maxi tile siding on our home and told us that it was Hardi Plank......Doesn't matter that much; they both have a 30 year waranttee..The problem lies in the siding being installed incorrectly causing excessive corner breakage on our siding. DR Horton, hired outside labor to build our home also taking many shortcuts, ie; leaving out vapor barriers and insulation on the external wall of our attached garage. Last years record setting temperatures caused excessive siding damage, due to the way it was installed...Maxi siding company said; "their warrantee would only cover the siding if it was installed correctly." They sent our a representative to look at our siding issues. He told us, the siding was not installed correctly...We also contacted our home owner's insurance company. They also said; "the siding was incorrectly installed." DR Horton to date has refused to take any responsibility for their contract laborer's irresponsibility. They say; "it is a home owners issue." The house is only 7 years old. The warantee, if installed correctly was 30 years..
There are two types of nailing in the installation of Maxi Plank...# 1 is blind nailing every 16-18 inches, on the top 3" of every plank...

#2 is face nailing where the nails are all on the bottom portion of the plank..

Blind and face nailing is not recommended because it makes the planks too rigid....

Also on the ends of each plank the installers ANGLED the nails, to fasten to the studs.

This is never to be done! They are to be perpendicular to the plank...or straight non angled..

Angling weakens the cement plank causing the corners to pop off.

Because no insulation was installed on the exterior wall of the garage,The garage becomes like an oven and the heat is transferred into the home.

DR Horton is a large corporation lawyers do not want to go up against. We have had several attorneys tell us they could not afford to take them on...We found that some of the most renowned inspectors, in our county are employed by "DR Horton... SO.... IT IS A CONFLICT OF INTEREST FOR THEM TO MAKE A COMPLAINT AGAINST DR HORTON.
