After sending questions to bytems.com, regarding 15.4 Macbook pro, $1000.00 and receiving replies, I thought it was a legit company. I even checked the BBB, and there it showed their ratings to be A++ . Ordered the mackbook, was notified when it had shipped, tried to contact via email for tacking #, but email came back as undeliverble. I did contact my credit card company, and they issued me a credit. I never received the laptop.

  • Hi - I hope you get this. Did you have to pay with a gift card from Amazon.com? I was afraid to dispute it with my CC company because I figured they wouldn't refund that money that is now spent! You are the only lucky one I know of now.

  • Hi, S - I, too, was told by the credit card company that they had issued a refund for what I lost, but they also said that the case will remain open for 45 days in case the seller (amazon.com) should make a claim back for their money. Is that what your situation is/was as well? I'm trying to find some way to find fraud protection here and am having only this one success. I am afraid there will be a claim made.

  • I did the same thing with my visa and they told me the same thing about recharging the amount back if Amazon.com comes back and dispute the charges by showing them a proof.
I believe that Amazon.com will be able to show Visa a proof (which is basically the PDF of the gift card) but we should still hold them responsible for it, and here is why:
I wouldn’t have heard about bytems.com if I did not see the Camera add on Amazon.com and I am almost sure that it is the same case with everyone else here.
After clicking the link to the camera, I was redirected to another website that redirected me to bytems.com.
Then, bytems.com asked me to pay them by an Amazon.com gift card, which still made sense to me at that time (being not an experienced Amazon shopper).
So we all linked the electronics we wanted to Amazon.com, and because we all thought that Amazon.com is a trusted site, we decided to pay the money we worked hard for, thinking that we will be finally getting the gadgets we always dreamed of within a certain budget.
Amazon.com were supposed to make sure that bytems.com is a legitimate site before they start posting their adds on their website and receive money from them.
Also, it does not make sense that Amazon.com can not track the money and/or stop bytems.com from cashing more gift cards especially when we started reporting this early in the game.
My conclusion is: Amazon.com helped bytems.com in more than one way and they must be held responsible for it.
I will keep you updated of how it goes with my Visa.
    Thanks,
    Sabah

  • Thank you for that info. I haven't heard from Amazon yet. I know the cc company said they were sending a letter explaining why they credited the funds back and I hope they will see it for what it is and will let it go, but I'm afraid they won't. I really wish the FBI would do something, a full investigation. Amazon.com is the only avenue I can think of that would have at least some information as to who these people are. The website was quite reassuring, too. It looked very REAL to me!
