After a terrible experience with UA 7 years ago, I tried one last time…big mistake! Flight 8154 from Montreal was delayed, supposedly by weather. Then the transfer out of Newark (1143) was delayed 12 hours longer than ALL the other airlines. We were given NO explanation, except that the FAA had a bone to pick with United and ONLY United, so all its flights were grounded. Different rumours circulated by UA staff had their planes headed for Paris and Palm Beach en route from Costa Rica and Liberia. (If only the Costa Ricans and Liberians had been in charge, I'm sure things would have been way better.) 
We were told to sleep on chairs or pay for a hotel out of our own pockets because UA NEVER OFFICIALLY CANCELS A FLIGHT; they ONLY DELAY IT INDEFINITELY WITHOUT ANY HONEST INFO. When I told UA's Newark personnel I had spare insulin that was going bad because the icepacks were no longer cool, they TURNED AND WALKED AWAY. When I asked for an EMS, your complaints clerk threatened me with airport Security. I have DOCTORS PREPARED TO TESTIFY to the effects this stress and outright abuse caused us both.
We arrived at Palm Beach at 4:00 a.m. instead of 2:22 p.m. and spent half our holiday trying to recover. (My wife was sick from tension and fatigue, etc., for at least 3 days).
THE RETURN TRIP WAS EVEN WORSE!
Flight 1143 from PBI to ERW was again screwed up by UA (as usual, no honest info.), and we had to take a hotel AT OUR OWN EXPENSE, though your supervisor at PBI was so embarrassed and ashamed we at least got a slight discount. (Five days later, we are STILL both sick and depressed, and probably will continue to be so for some days yet. When the bill is complete, you will receive it, along with the usual court notices.*)
Next morning, we took off with US Airways, who managed to do things right, 
We are now both undergoing medical care after the nightmare you knowingly put us through, and in addition to civil legal proceedings, we are looking into charges of CRIMINAL FRAUD against you.
As a JOURNALIST, I can promise you that you have a lot of public explaining and repair-work to do. 
My fellow journalists tell me this sort of short-changing figures into your basic operations as an acceptable "risk" to be borne by your customers alone. Apparently you are known by the slogan "Take the money and run".
Please do not insult us by offering a $200.oo discount, as you did 7 years ago. You are 0 for 8, and I would never touch United again except in COURT, which will very likely happen.

We are looking into a CLASS-ACTION suit going back several decades.

If you are tempted to treat these as idle warnings, check my track-record with companies like yours.

If the full amount of $743.40 USD (seven hundred forty-three dollars and forty cents--US) is not fully refunded within 48 hrs. (forty-eight hours) of your receipt of the present document, we will institute court proceedings, including possible fraud charges. This does not preclude further legal action for damages, medical costs, etc.
