I signed up for a online advertising campaigned that was explained to be $4.95/month for initial sign up. There was no mention of an increase in monthly fees. I get a call a year later saying that I owe $495 for the year of advertising. What!!! I was never sent a stmt and had not idea I was being charged this!!
I refused to pay it. On a follow-up call, the person had me state my name and address so he could send me a bill. Later, a person called me saying I owed the money. He had a recording of me admitting signing up for the service a year previously, 2011, but it was the recording I gave a 2 weeks earlier, summer of 2012, when I was being sent the bill! Those scammers!!!
I again refused to pay, and he threatened to submit my info to a collection agency. This company better had not win!!!

I started recieving the same messages, letters, and phone calls. I told them I had to have the contract that was signed in order to move forward at which time they played a recording of myself, however the recording was different than the actual conversation that had taken place. When discussing with the "representative" my concerns she told me that the recording would serve as a contract and would be evidence in court, so she would be sending the account to collections and hung up. I immediately contacted my attorney and told him of this....
He advised me to send a cease and decist letter to the address on the invoice that was sent to me. (Samples of these can be found online). I have not since heard from them, so it appears to have worked :).
