Booked a return ticket on the Ferry from Dover to Calais when holidaying in France this year with friends who booked the night before us. The return sailing we wanted to join our friends 8:00 pm on 4 September was not available on line so I rang up DFDS who said that ferry was full because many people were travelling back for the start of the school term and our next available slot was 1 am on 5 September. Travelled back with our friends for their ferry and asked if we could get on an earlier sailing. Was sent to the ticket office who offered us a slot on the 8:00 pm ferry and was charged £56.12 which we paid assuming a spare slot had opened up and would save us hanging around. Imagine my annoyance when I found the ferry practically empty. I asked DFDS for a refund as they had clearly lied about the availability and the customer services e mail was just a patronising run-down of their service. I believe DFDS are deliberatly making slots unavailable so that they get extra money from fools like me.
