was selling a couch for $500 on gumtree and i was contacted by this prick for extra photos of the couch. i sent them via my main email (gmail) and they asked for my paypal login email address (hotmail) which i gave them because they cant do much damage with an email address. in their email they had fake links to paypal (which i didn't click on).
once they had my hotmail they sent an email from username:[email protected] email:[email protected] saying they'd made an instant payment of $950. the extra money was for me to pay postage as "paypal's policy is that the seller must pay the delivery company."
i checked my paypal account and there was no extra money in there. i contacted paypal and they told me that the email was fake. i responded to latham cathy explaining this and they sent me another fake email saying that paypal was taking immediate legal action against me if i did not pay them $950. they said they had all my personal details on their 'database' and they even threatened that the Australian Federal Police would be sending me an email within 24hours. i responded by explaining that if they contacted me again, i would take their emails to the actual police. since then ive only received one other fake email from paypal giving me one last chance to pay up before 'legal action' is taken against me.
