Received several calls (6 in total). In the first call the agent stated that I had won their sweeps. He told me I won $850,000, a Mercedes and a gift basket from JC Penney. He asked if I would be home at 10 AM Monday morning so that the UPS man could deliver the prizes. He stated he would be with the UPS man when he made the delivery. Absolutely none of this was making sense. He stated that he would go to the bank with me to deposit this check. At that point I told him that there is no way I would go with a stranger anywhere, especially my bank. At that point he said he was only going with me because it was a lot of money and I shouldn't go alone. I stated I would have a friend go with me and not him. At that point he decided to go another route and told me that in order to collect the prizes I had to have a receipt from Western Union. He stated that it was a registration fee. I asked him how much I had to pay as a registration fee and he stated $55. Then I asked him what the name of the company was that I should send this money to. He told me that I wouldn't be sending it to the company but to an individual agent. I asked him the name of the agent and he said something that sounded made up, I'm not sure what he said the name was. If it was a real name it was foreign. I told him none of this sounded right and I wasn't going to pay him. At that point he hung up. A few minutes later he called back and asked me why I hung up. I told him that I didn't. He stated that we must have a bad connection. I tried to probe him for more information. I asked him where his company was located. He told me Las Vegas. Then he started the high-pressure tactic. He started in on how much he knew I could use the money, how great it would be, etc. All I had to do was pay him the $55. This time he told me it was for shipping and handling. I asked him where these prizes were coming from and he said North Carolina. I said that I thought the company was in Los Vegas. At that point the phone went dead again. As expected, he called back a couple minutes later, still trying to convince me to go to Western Union. I asked him if the prizes were already here in my area. He said yes. So I asked why I had to pay Shipping and handling if the prizes were already here. He said it was to pay the delivery man. I asked him why I couldn't pay the delivery man directly. Again the phone went dead. He called back again and said that he was coming all the way from California and that was the Handling Fee. I said that I thought he was in Los Vegas. Having caught him in another lie, again the phone went dead. He called back a few more times; getting nastier and more demanding each call. I finally blocked his calls from my phone. In case there is no where in this report to tell you, the phone number he kept calling from was 1-304-867-0799.
