Im a section 8 recipient that moved from California to Nevada. I applied to this apartment complex that required a $40 application fee plus a $150 holding/cleaning fee for the unit I wanted there was also a sure deposit fee of $175 which came to a grand total of $365 prior to my move in, I was also informed by Chelsea O'Keefe that there would be a $250 early termination fee if I decided to break the lease contract. I fully understood. The fees were paid and my inspection date was set for September 24, 2015 needless to say it passed, so I moved in on September 24,2015. Upon moving in I received a call from section 8 on October 2, 2015 stating that I could not rent the unit based on the information in the contract from Copperhills Apartments that stated that the tenant pays electricity and the owner pays the rest but they also charge me a flat rate fee of $34 a month to the owner for water, sewer and garbage which goes over my utility allowance for Nevada section 8. Section 8 informed me that in order for me to be able to stay in the unit they would have to lower the rent $35 to accommodate my needs the called Copperhills office for 2 days straight, no answer, they finally got in contact with someone in the office and they very rudely stated "We will not lower the rent it is not our problem that your client has section 8, if we lower it for one we would have to lower it for everyone and thats not going to happen." Upon receiving that information I moved out immediately, turned in my keys to Chelsea O'Keefe and vacated the unit yesterday. Today I went into the front office to get a itemized list of what I owed, if I owed anything. When I was given the paper I noticed that I was charged full rent for the month of October ($966), cleaning fee($85), carpet cleaning fee($85), which like I mention previously was paid upfront and finally my early termination fee is $1,932 which was only supposed to be $250. I then asked Chelsea O'Keefe why I was being charged a cleaning fee that was paid up front, why my termination fee was $1,932 when it was only supposed to be $250. I was told by Chelsea O'Keefe that everyone gets charged a cleaning fee when they move out and she never said anything about the termination fee. Copperhills has had this issue with previous potential tenants regarding this very thing but they do not inform you up front that these things might happen just so that you know before you hand over any money or sign any lease and once it's all said and done there customer service skills suck. As long as they have your money they can care less about what happens next. DO NOT I REPEAT DONT NOT RENT FROM THESE APARTMENTS ITS A SCAM.
