In August 2015, I got a sales call from a company falsely claiming to be Volkswagon. Warranty insurance on my car had just expired three years after purchase. These persons offered to extend my warranty. They gave me several options. I chose an option which would allow me to pay $399.00 for three months with the option of extended payment if I wished to continue the service. I chose this, as I explained to the sales associates, because I wished to call Volkswagon and research the policy, see if it met my needs, etc.
I allowed a one time charge on my credit card, for this amount.
After researching the company, actually named "Car Treaty", I found out it was a scam!
I received five mailings from Car Treaty, assuring me in very dramatic terms, that if I didn't call and renew my policy, that it would be terminated!!! I called and told them I would not be renewing. I sent a mailing back with "refuse" written on it.
I discovered last month that Car Treaty had fraudulently billed my credit card for $199.00 in October and November of 2015. I disputed these and closed my MasterCard. I then got a hostile phone call telling me they had my voice on a recording stating I had agreed to pay $3,000.00. For a policy! When I denied this, the rep hung up.
This week, I received two emails from OmnisureLLC LLC with a bill for the charge backs and a claim that I have a contract for monthly payment for a warranty to Car Treaty.
This is an elaborate and lucrative scam!
