While at my dad's this morning he received a phone call. My dad is very hard of hearing and because the person calling had an accent and was speaking very fast he was not able to understand, he asked the lady to hold while he handed the phone to me. I interrupted her to tell her my dad was hard of hearing and would she please tell me what she needed. She began by telling me he had won a sweepstakes in the amount of 750'000 dollars from American sweepstakes and was giving me information on how to handle the taxes and such. When I began asking questions she hung up on me but called backed within a few minutes. She began repeating some of what she had already told me so I just listened. She asked if my father would be home next Wednesday for someone to stop by, which I told her I would have to check with him. She then said there were several questions she needed to have my dad answer so as to complete the process and turn the information over to Mr. Evans. She first asked his age which I gave her, she then asked about any pensions, I immediately told her we were finished and hung up the phone. She did not call back. I believe my Dad would have hung up on her even if I had not been there but because of his age and inability to hear I'm not sure what information he would have given them because he could not understand who was even calling. The elderly are at such a disadvantage and can be scammed so easily.
