I got a call saying that I recently shopped at Walmart and qualified for a free $100 gift card from target/walmart and was one of the 100 in my city to do so. I was asked for my address/credit card number and told that i would be charged $2.95 as postage to send me this gift card. I was told this would be a one time charge and no other hidden motive.

I immediately recognized this could be a scam as there are no free lunches. I asked for the company name and on googling came upon this forum (thanks guys for posting here!, it saved me). When I told his supervisor that i would only pay cash or check and didnt own a plastic card, he was pissed .. Later he threatened that he would charge $20 on my card monthly and blabbered a card number (which i didnt catch). As protection, i went ahead and cancelled all my debit cards just so that there is no false transaction. Moral: be safe, dont entertain any marketing calls from anyone!
