I had had some very minor quirks on my PC recently - nothing serious - but that, and a sudden recent update from Microsoft that I had just accepted two security items and a driver update - helped set me up. I also opened my PC to find “update failed” (it was the driver only that failed – I’ve yet to try it again)
Right after seeing my anti-virus SW tell me of this update - before seeing it show up as a normal "New updates are available" This all now appears to be just a random coincidence.
So soon after that, I get this call . . . from "Microsoft" wanting to support their customer. I ask repeatedly why I should trust them - Give me the SN of my SW - they repeatedly saw "Don't worry . . . " I made the mistake of asking for a supervisor - that gave me a much smoother talker - really good - but still obviously a bad internet based phone line and the proverbial Indian like accent. I wonder if there are the same people who had worked at Yogi - with who ruined my PC – had to totally re-load and the price was about the same. They have me look at my PC where I see a number of Application errors . . .
I made the error of - through their web site - connect to my PC. Watched carefully all they did - but still wonder if they could have planted something that does not get caught by Windows or my Virus SW . . . they were very slick and confident. I aborted by puling power to my router - then hung up - and then ran my virus SW – with internet still disconnected (a friend gave me that tip) - before hooking up power again. Hope I have no problem . . . Face to face so to speak with evil . . . very disconcerting.

  • Anonymous Thadious, I wish I had been smart enough to pull the plug. He let me know that I owed him money for his programs (which I didn't) and that he would ruin my computer. He did.
With the Geek Squad and Carbonite, I got most of it back, but it cost me time and money.
