We opened an American Express account at Costco to take advantage of a $500 discount on a new car purchase. We never activated the AE account; the gum labels on the AE card are still intact. When talking to AE, by phone, they admit we have no account. We do have a Costco account which we always pay by cash or by check; they do not accept other credit cards. We do not have a local bank account. We live in rural Alaska 60 miles north of Anchorage where Costco is located. Costco tried to renew the AE account and was told we do not have an AE account. We have never received a bill, written or otherwise, from AE.
