I received a telephone solicitaton from Edison Publishing several months ago. They promised that I would receive 3 magazines a month for a 3 year term at $16.87 per month. Within a very few weeks I received a high pressure call attemping to get me to pay off the balance of the contract in exchange for a discount off the total. I finally made it clear that I was not going for it.
I did not receive 2 of the 3 magazines I selected. Instead I received 1 that I requested and 2 others in which I had no interest. Then I began receiving several other magazines in which I had no interest and certainly did not request. I called and told them about my selections being changed and the additional magazines and asked them to stop them. They tried to explain away everything, ignoring the change in my selections and saying that I would not be charged for the extras.
When I continued to receive the wrong magazines and more extras I call them and requested cancellation. They resisted but finally agreed to cancel.
The following month more magazines arrived and another payment came out of my checking account. I called and requested cancellation again, and again they said they would cancel my account.
Same thing the next month. I called for the third time to request cancellation and told them that I would involve the Dept of Commerce and Consumer Affairs if they did not cancel immediately (I was quite serious). I said I wanted a manager or supervisor to confirm the cancellation and to return my most recent payment. Finally I got their attention. The last payment was returned to my checking account and I received a letter confirming cancellation. within 5 days.
I still feel ripped-off because I did not receive what I signed up for and was bothered with a lot of magazines I had absolutely no interest in. I feel that the payments I made were taken by them in bad faith. Edison Publishing and their representatives knew full well what would happen. I want my previous payments returned.
