Happened to check my bank account and saw a $7.70 charge to my account today. I called my bank and they said that if it's under $20 they usually don't launch an investigation but they did give me the phone number of 760-335-6227 for the company behind the charge, named GymSqure.com.
I called the number and a woman with an accent came on the line and she told me that apparently my husband ordered fishing lures. I sternly told her that he most definitely did not and that I had already read online about how they are hitting other victim's bank accounts and that I would be shutting down the card and making a police report.
They probably realize that most banks won't investigate under a certain dollar amount and that's why the charges seem to all be for under $15. Regardless, if I steal from someone's pocket, it doesn't matter if it's $7 or $7,000, it's still theft!
I'll also be filing a complaint with the BBB and California's Attorney General's office this afternoon as well.
Funny thing, the card is in my name, not my husband's but yet they knew his first name. The only way his name is associated with the bank card is through an online game that he plays via Blizzard.
