I Googled "Apple Care phone number" and the phone number for The Techzilla Repair Team popped up. I did not visit their website, just hit "call" on my iPhone. I should have visited the website first.
These people go out of their way to pretend they are Apple Care. Without ever clarifying that they were not Apple Care, the man I spoke with looked up my computer's serial number, confirmed that I was still under warranty, and told me that if I sent it to the "warranty department," it would take 6-8 weeks to get my device back. However, if I paid an additional $199.99, I could be upgraded to the Rapid Repair and would have my device back and working in 10 days or less. He assured me that this was my best bet, and that my money would be refunded if they were not able to fix my computer.
Still thinking this “Rapid Repair” was part of Apple, I paid the $199.99 and sent my computer in. After over two weeks, they finally called me and told me they could not fix the computer. Only then, after spending an entire afternoon on the phone with them, did they admit to not begin Apple. At this point, I found the actual number for Apple. After talking to them, I was informed that Apple Care repairs take an average of 5-7 days (not 6-8 weeks like I was told) and are completely free if the machine is still under warranty like mine is.
The Techzilla Repair Team lied to me about being Apple Care, lied to me about how long Apple Care’s warranty repairs take, lied to me about Rapid Repair being my “best bet,” promised to refund my money if they could not fix the machine and then refused to refund it, and wasted three weeks of time where I don’t have a computer. I still don’t have my computer back!
