In June this year (2015) I received a call from an unknown caller asking if I was interested in buying a mobile number ending in 000000. This person was asking £2000 for the transfer, a deal was agreed at £750.00, however, I was not prepared to send any money to his bank until I had the number in my pocession. 48hrs later an old Nokia phone arrived along with a written down Pac-code, to my addess (so now he knows that!). The pay as you go simcard was issued by GiffGaff (I had never heard of them!) but the phone did ring when the *****000000 number was dialed. I took the phone to a local mobile phone shop who suggested I purchase a £10.00 EE 'pay as you go' voucher from the Post Office. I returned to the phone shop and the manager called EE direct quoteing the EE sim card details and the required PacCode to enable the transfer to take place. I was personally vetted by the EE person over the phone, and having passed the necessary security checks, was told the phone would go active within 48 hours, with the new *****000000 number, it did, so as far as I was concerned, deal done, time to send the money, which I did.
24 hours later the phone was dead and the number had disapeared! (along with my £750.00) someone had sucessfully infiltrated the security system at EE and convinced them they were me and requested the transfer of the *****000000 to them, which EE did !!!!!!!
Over they next 3 weeks, during which time, thanks to internet research, and Action Fraud, the name Mark Anthony Goodless had appeared centre stage and now featured as No1 suspect. This guy was arrested last year and has already served 8 months as a convicted fraudster, following Gumtree and Ebay scams. ( I have actually spoken to the arresting officer) He was released earlier this year and is back out in the public sector scamming again. Probably using all the new skills he would have picked up from his new friends whilst in the Nick!
Following threats of civil legal action against EE, unless they refunded me in full or got the number back, they responded and did indeed return the number to me.
Now follows the lesson for all you readers who fear this could happen to you. If you have a valuable mobile number or plan to buy one, immediately it is in your name, and before you pay for it !!!! contact your service provider and change your security password. Or do what I have done and put 3 (yes 3) different passwords in place, requesting that NO TRANSFER must be actioned without a personal call to yourself along with confirmation of all three passwords.
Since June this year there have been continued attempts by an outside party (Guess who!) to get EE to transfer the mobile number *****000000 away from me, each attempt has failed.

So there you have it, I thought I was above being scammed, but the crafty bastard pulled one over me, but it all ended in my favor in the end....THE END.
