I received a phone call on Sunday from USAGC, paid 600 EUR, two days later on Tuesday I sent an e-mail that I wish to withdraw my application and want a refund. Approximately 4 days later someone called me saying it cannot be cancelled and that only 250 EUR would be refunded.
To my question what happened to the remaining 350 EUR, I was told that this represented expenses for e-mail communication, application and a package with DVD that was sent. All of this in two days!
After I asked if she was joking, the lady started being aggressive, shouting to the phone like a mad woman so I put the phone down. Never in my life had I experienced anything like this.
Later on I received an e-mail that the money will be refunded after I send the package back. The amount was not specified, it could well be 1 EUR.
I asked certain gentleman for a help on MYUSAI.org who replied he would help me. A week later I wrote to him 3 times, only being ignored. In my frustration I decided to write to USAGC one more time saying that I don’t want the money back, I am sure I would not see it back anyway. I am sending the package back and expecting to be deleted from the database and asked for this to be confirmed by an e-mail or a phone call.
Few minutes later an e-mail was received that someone would get back to me within two working days. It is almost two weeks now and still nothing.
I decided to call Slovak Embassy in London as well as office in Slovakia and I was recommended to send me story to media. And this is what I will most likely do. And not only to Slovak media. If 600 EUR is worth of it to this company, so be it. At this very moment is a matter of principle. If I was told that 50 or max 100 EUR would be deducted, I would have not even questioned ‘why’. However 350 EUR for two days, for e-mails and a package that was worth no more than $10, that is ridiculous.
..I am Slovak and warned them of my rather weak English and the fact that GC is for free, they ‘forgot’ to mention, too. Also, Slovak e-mail address which I am using solely for Slovak matters got bombarded with e-mails like, ‘you won $2,000 which were sent to your bank account, please confirm’... I have the e-mail address for good 12 years and never received similar e-mail from abroad. Where did they get my e-mail address from, I wonder...
..I am an honest man and only exercised my rights to cancellation. I lost 600 EUR in two days plus postage to return the package and had to put up with aggression or ignoration. Now I hope that the money will be worth of it to them.

  • I have got the same item: a cheap book together with a CD rom.
    It included an invoice for 20 US dollars despite I have been charged for 273 Euro.
    I understand that it would be very difficult to get some money back (not directly from them, indeed).
    I'd only like to make them to pay as well: so I would notify in some way to the government of the Country where they do operate from that they have got an income of 273 Euro and they have declared an invoice for 20.
    Did you receive any invoice together with the CD and the rest of your package as I did?
