I received a call from Mike Alvarez asking if I would like to sell my Mayan Palace time she. I said yes,he said he would send me a sells agreement along with a possible offer. Oakwood management buys up groups of time shares for Companies in Mexico that want timeshares for their employees. I was sent 3 references to call which I was able to speak with two of them, one in New York City and one in San Francisco. Both gave a good story about their transaction with Oakwood management.
I was to wire the Taxes on this sale to the Mexican goverment of 10% of the sales before the sell could be completed. I was to receive $32,600.00. But I would have to pay $3,260.00 to the Mexican S.A.T.office , then I would receive the Funding for the sale and then I would have to send Oakwood Management 9% commission within 5 days. I wired the money to the SAT office and when called Oakwood about sending me the Funding for the timeshare, I was total there was a problem the came up in Mexico, that the Mexican goverment now wanted to be paid a Federal Tax now of an additional $2,934.00. I was told the the group my timeshare was in wouldn't beable to move forward unless at least 13 of the 19 people involved in selling their timeshare agreed to pay the additional amount.
I told them that I could not pay the additional amount and I wanted a refund. They said okay it would take 4-6 months and they would have to fill out a form and sent it to the SAT. I asked them " Will I need to sign the form and I was told yes. I requested the form be sent to me. I have not received it. I Called them again today and was hung up on.
Needless to say I feel very stupid, I thought we had checked this company out, and they seemed like they actually had a legimate business. My hope is that they'll be stopped somehow so other people don't lose their money like we did.

  • These companies are also known as “Resale Service Providers”. They contact people especially through phone calls. The telemarketers claim to the person on the other side of the phone that the resales market is “hot”, and that selling their timeshare will be an easy job. All they ask for is an upfront fee of about $300 to $700, which varies depending on the location and size of the unit.

After that, they promise to sell your timeshare for an equal price than your purchase cost, or even greater, so you can also generate profits, and that they count with an exclusive customer portfolio full of potential buyers who are interested in getting your timeshare.

Finally, In order to further entice the person, they guarantee to give them the money back in case they can’t sell the timeshare within a certain period.
