Back in July of 2013. I purchased a Nikon F2.8 70-200 lens from Closeout Digital. Finding the lens not working correctly I decided to get it checked out at the Canadian Nikon Service Centre.
They informed me they could not service it since it was not under warranty for Canada. I phoned Nikon USA they also informed me they could not verify the serial number. After many phone calls to Closeout Digital 408-409-7801. Being put on hold for up to over an hour at a time. Being told I would have to call back. Leaving messages and not getting return calls.Sending emails and not getting answers. Finally after over many months of this I finally got thru was told I was mistakenly given a Grey Lens and should have received a North American Version.They asked me to send it back and I would be reimbursed my cost and a new lens. After many attempts by UPS of trying to deliver the lens UPS informed me they were having problems to deliver the product. Not wanting it returned I again attempted to call Closeout Digital. Again many calls and the calls going directly to music hold. Finally I spoke to Ben who told me they under construction but he would not give me an alternative address to send the lens, but would say he would give a call back. He never did. Again back to the phones and after many calls getting a person who gave me a redirected address, which I passed on to UPS. Again after many attempts they delivered it on November 14 2013.Their fist attempt was October 23rd 2013.
So they got it on Nov 14 2013 I did not hear from Closeout so again I phoned them and after many tries talked to one of the many Josh's that work there. This Josh apologized and said he was the supervisor and told me that the lens was out for repair and once the got it back from Nikon on January 15 2014. He would send me a replacement North American lens at their cost. I told him that January 18th would be better for me since I would be travelling he agreed and said he would send it then. I waited it did not show up again I tried to phone Closeout. February I was away from home travelling and returned February 27 2014.March 3 2014 I phoned Closeout again put on music hold. Finally Dave(I believe) picked it up I asked if I could speak with Josh he put me on hold after an hour Josh came on the phone he said I would need to talk to the other Josh.Apparently they have 4 Joshes working there. He said I would have to speak with Josh Jensen who would be given the message to call me. He never did.I also sent him an email to call me. I haven't heard from Closeout not only did they not send me the correct replacement lens but they also have the original lens. This saga has been going on for months. Are these guys legit or what.
