Our WD-65734 TV was purchased through Fry's.com with a Mitsubishi Credit Card at the end of 2007. Around August 18th, 2011, we noticed two white dots and 1 black dot on the screen, centered towards the mid-left of the screen. These dots have somewhat of an angle to them, as they are not perfectly square or round. Within a couple weeks of using the TV (only a few hours a day), the number of dots increased to ~15. Within a month, we had over a hundred white dots, and easily a hundred black dots. We could not view a picture comfortably towards November, as the number of dots increased well over a thousand (per color).

I am still on the original bulb, and the vents on the back of the TV has always been vacuumed to allow proper cooling of the light engine - we used this monitor for work. This original bulb is still operable, but we cannot view the TV because of the enormous number of dots everywhere.

Since we have a small 1300sq ft home (not friendly to large appliances) this TV has been taking up valuable space in storage at my office/warehouse.

We feel cheated out of $1699, especially because we could not simply fix it without paying almost as much money as highly rated 2011 Plasma TV's from Panasonic. We've all heard the stories of those that have gone through this problem, up to the repairman spending "maybe 5 minutes" swapping out a simple part (our best friends, whom I recommended the 734 series in late 2007, had the dots problem after we encountered it.) Fortunately our friends had a warranty with Fry's, but we've been Mitsubishi fans since the Rear-Projection CRT Diamond Series, so we had high expectations for build quality from from this company.

The amount of money Mitsubishi has requested from out-of-warranty owners of DLP's exhibiting this defect is ridiculous, and nobody should have to pay anything (like Samsung/Sony victims). Customers like us are concerned that replacement parts will only be a temporary patch, soon to fail. We feel this TV was not outdated as far as HDTV's go, but the longer it sits, the more we see inexpensive 3D Plasma's for not much more than the repair cost of something "so simple" as this white/black dots problem, further irritating us. Costing over $1.16 a day to own this defective TV for ~4 years until its retirement (not including any accrued interest) has evidenced this to be the biggest waste of money in our electronics purchasing experience. While we had to repair our own RPCRT Diamond Series (65") purchased prior to this 734 DLP series in the past (4 capacitors on the DM board had to be replaced due to subpar quality), it only cost me $4 plus tax, 1 hour personal labor (yes, I'm familiar with TV repair), and that thing is STILL running in my parent's house. I gave them that 65" RPCRT Diamond Series because I was happy about the 65" DLP taking up less space.

I want the materials to replace the defective part for free. I can handle the repair myself. If Mitsubishi will not allow this, they can send someone out, and I will tip the repairman/woman $20 for their courtesy. I have avoided all Mitsubishi products (our friend has also avoided this company) until a remedy can take place.

Update: 02/01/2012

A scanned receipt/card statement will follow very soon. Going through old tax records is going to take a moment...
